Bayern Munich make announcement on Manchester United wantaway Martial

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed Manchester United outcast Anthony Martial is not a target for the club.

Martial has turned down a new contract offer from United and wants to leave the club after failing to win over Jose Mourinho’s trust in the last two years.

The France international’s preference is to stay in England, with Tottenham and Chelsea interested, but United do not want to strengthen a direct rival.

United would have been hoping to sell Martial to a club like Bayern but the Bundesliga champions have confirmed their stance on the 22-year-old.

“We have four outside strikers: [Franck] Ribery, [Arjen] Robben, [Kingsley] Coman and [Serge] Gnabry,” Rummenigge told German outlet BILD, via The Express.

“And [Alphonso] Davies is there too. You must not turn the wheel over. That’s what some clubs do, but it’s a problem for the coach.”

Mourinho would like to sell Martial before Thursday’s transfer deadline but United’s hierarchy are reluctant to sell someone with his immense potential.

United have committed as much as £56m to Martial and believe he is now worth in the region of £80m in the current market.

With options abroad running out, the Red Devils may have no choice but to entertain offers from their Premier League rivals.

Since joining United in 2015, Martial has scored more league goals than any player at the club (24), but he has been forced to the periphery under Mourinho.

In fact, only Olivier Giroud (6) scored more Premier League goals than Martial (4) as a substitute last term.
