Athletic Club have confirmed Aymeric Laporte will be sidelined for up to four months with a fractured ankle, via Football Espana.
Laporte, 21, was stretchered off during France Under-21’s clash against Scotland during the international break just after it had emerged City had matched his £39.6m release clause.
City may now be forced to look at other options with the Frenchman unlikely to be fit before the start of next season, which is also a huge blow to Athletic’s chances of winning the Europa League this season.
It is in the Europa League where Laporte has arguably been most impressive. In fact, Laporte has made more interceptions than any other player in the competition this season (38).
