Wigan have two-time European champion in their sights

Managerless Wigan Athletic are poised to offer Ryan Giggs his first route into management, according to The Daily Mail.

Wigan have been without a manager since sacking Gary Caldwell on Monday following their underwhelming start to the season.

The Latics have already drawn up a shortlist of managers they want to speak with about replacing Caldwell, which includes former Manchester United assistant manager Giggs, as well as former MK Dons manager Karl Robinson.

Giggs has been out of work since deciding to leave United at the end of last season after being overlooked for the job as Louis van Gaal’s successor.

The Welshman was interviewed by Swansea at the start of the month before being overlooked in favour of Bob Bradley, but could now be set to become a permanent manager for the first time with Championship side Wigan.

Wigan are currently second from bottom in the Championship having only managed two wins in their opening 14 league matches of the season. They have only won one of their last six, although only two defats have fallen in that time.
