Leicester set to reward Ranieri with long-term deal

Leicester will sit down with manager Claudio Ranieri at the end of the season and offer the Italian a new bumper long-term deal, according to the club’s vice-chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha.

Ranieri, 64, only put pen to paper on a three-year deal when he replaced Nigel Pearson at the King Power Stadium last July but after leading Leicester to their first ever top-flight league title in their 132-year history.

The Foxes’ meteoric rise caught all by surprise as they wrapped up the Premier League title with two games to spare and now they are looking to reward Ranieri with a new long-term deal to deter any suitors, mainly the Italy national team, from prying away their charming manager.

“At the end of the season we will talk about that [extending Ranieri’s contract] with him,” Srivaddhanaprabha is quoted as saying by Marca.

“We will sit down together and when we talk about something, it’s long term, not just until September. I like people to work for me when they are happy and enjoy working with the group of people.”

Leicester are currently 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League and if they avoid defeat against Chelsea in the last game of the season they will become only the second team in the last seven years to lose three or fewer games in a season (Chelsea, 2014/15 - 3).
