Chelsea plot next Atletico raid

Chelsea are looking to strengthen their squad with three more players from Atletico Madrid, according to Spanish paper AS.

The Premier League champions have a good relationship with Atletico, having brokered a long-term loan deal with Thibaut Courtois in the past, as well as forcing through acquisitions for Diego Costa and Filipe Luis in recent summers.

However, Atletico will now look to fend off interest from Chelsea with Jose Mourinho’s eyes set on signing Diego Godin, Koke and Antoine Griezmann to strengthen his thin squad.

The La Liga outfit will reportedly look to offer the trio new lucrative contracts in an attempt to ward off any interest from their European rivals, even though Koke and Godin still have four years to run on their current deals, with Griezmann also tied down until 2020.

Chelsea have previously been linked with Griezmann and it’s the France international that has performed best for Diego Simeone’s side this season.

The 24-year-old has played a direct hand in five league goals for Atletico thus far, which is at least two more than any of his teammates.
