Lazio have rebuffed Leicester’s £9m bid for centre-back Wesley Hoedt, reports Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia.
Leicester have been keen to sign a new centre-back all month following an alarming slump in form for both Wes Morgan and Robert Huth this season.
Claudio Ranieri’s side have already failed in their attempts to land Francesco Acerbi from Italian side Sassuolo and have now suffered a setback in their pursuit of Hoedt.
Hoedt, 22, joined Lazio from AZ Alkmaar on a free contract in July 2015 and has established himself as an important player for the club’s future.
It remains to be seen whether Leicester will return with an improved bid for the Dutch defender but Lazio are not interested in losing him, particularly with just over 24 hours remaining in the January transfer window.
Hoedt has only started eight league games this season but is averaging more passes per league game than any other Lazio teammate (55.4).
