Lazio have submitted a £5m bid for Liverpool veteran Lucas Leiva as they seek a replacement for Lucas Biglia, reports The Guardian.
The Serie A giants have sanctioned the sale of Biglia to rivals AC Milan and are now on the market for a new defensive midfielder to help fill his boots.
Lucas has dropped down the pecking order at Anfield in the last few years but remains a key member of the dressing room and fan favourite at the club.
The 30-year-old has had several options to leave Liverpool in the past and Jurgen Klopp’s side will have to make a very big decision on this offer as they would be losing more than just a midfielder.
Lucas has spent the last decade at Liverpool but has entered the final 12 months of his current deal and it remains to be seen whether he would be offered an extension given the club are pursuing RB Leipzig star Naby Keita.
Liverpool only paid £5m to sign Lucas from Gremio in 2007 and he has been a tremendous servant in that time. Lazio’s deal on the table would not only allow the Reds to recoup all of their original investment but the Brazilian would also find regular first-team football.
Lucas has won the most tackles and interceptions combined in the Premier League since August 2009 (1237).
