Chelsea will re-open contract talks before the end of the season

Chelsea will look to wrap up Thibaut Courtois’ long-term future before the end of the season amid fears he could leave in the summer, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Courtois turned down a new deal from Chelsea in pre-season and has already revealed he has no intention of agreeing anything new until the summer, putting the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain on red alert.

Chelsea’s European giants will be well within their right to test the waters in the summer when Courtois would only have 12 months remaining on his current deal, but Antonio Conte’s side ideally want his future resolved before then.

Courtois is adamant that he only wants to wait until the summer to thrash out talks due to the amount of games Chelsea are playing this season but it still leaves the defending Premier League champions in a vulnerable position with one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Since the start of last season, only David de Gea (23) has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League than Courtois (22).
