New York City FC have announced Frank Lampard will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of 2016.
Lampard, 38, has spent the last two years at NYCFC after joining on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2014.
The former England international endured a tough start to life in MLS and was labelled one of the league’s worst ever imports after struggling to stay fit.
However, the veteran midfielder has been in sublime form for NYCFC in 2016 and helped them reach the playoffs before elimination to Toronto, but will now bow out when his contract expires in December.
“As my time at NYCFC comes to an end, I would like to thank so many people for the kindness and support that they have shown me over the last two years,” Lampard told the club’s official website.
“My teammates have been a pleasure to play alongside. The amazing fans have given me incredible support and backing.
“I have very much enjoyed my time, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to play for such a great club and in such an incredible city."
Lampard finished this season with 12 goals in 21 appearances. In fact, of players to have scored more than six goals in MLS this season, Lampard has the best conversion rate (32.4%), accentuating his statistically calculated strength of ‘finishing’.
