Bournemouth on the brink of breaking club transfer record

Bournemouth are on the verge of breaking their club transfer record after moving a step closer to signing Wolves striker Benik Afobe for £10m, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Cherries have already signed Juan Iturbe on loan for the remainder of the season and are close to landing their second signing of the January transfer market.

Eddie Howe has been keen on strengthening his offensive options ever since Callum Wilson was ruled out for the season with a knee injury in September and has seemingly earmarked Afobe as the striker to fire them to Premier League survival at the first attempt.

Afobe, 22, only joined Wolves permanently from Arsenal this time last year but is now set to leave the club, breaking Bournemouth’s previous club-record when they signed Tyrone Mings from Ipswich for £9m over the summer.

The former England Under-21 international has scored 22 goals in 46 appearances in the Championship over the last two campaigns but is by no means a guarantee to succeed in the Premier League.
