Atletico Madrid agree personal terms with Chelsea ace

Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid regarding a summer move, claims MARCA.

Atletico are on the market for Filipe Luis’ successor and have earmarked former Real Madrid defender Alonso as their top transfer target.

Alonso has developed into one of the best attacking full-backs in the Premier League since moving to Chelsea from Fiorentina in 2016.

The 28-year-old is keen to return to the Spanish capital and is now hopeful Atletico can agree a fee with Chelsea.

A move is made more complicated by the fact Chelsea are unsure whether they will be allowed to sign new players this summer.

Chelsea have been hit with a FIFA-imposed transfer ban but are hopeful that it will be temporarily lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Failure to do so would almost certainly rule out Alonso’s move to Atletico, as Chelsea would not be able to sign a replacement.

Alonso dropped down the pecking order at Chelsea during the second half of the season and was an unused substitute in their Europa League final win on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, Alonso has played a direct hand in more Premier League goals (24) than any other player since August 2016.
