Wolves are working on a deal to make Jonny’s loan deal from Atletico Madrid permanent in a club-record-equalling deal worth £18m, claims The Daily Telegraph.
Nuno’s side signed Jonny on an initial season-long loan deal last summer and the 24-year-old has been an overwhelming success for the newly promoted side.
Jonny has even worked his way into the Spain national team this season and Wolves want to make his stay permanent.
Wolves broke their club transfer record to sign Adama Traore from Middlesbrough in August and are willing to match that fee to secure Jonny’s long-term services.
Jonny missed a month of the season with knee ligament damage but returned to first-team action in time for Wolves’ Christmas schedule and has started 19 league games this season.
Moreover, only fellow summer signing Joao Moutinho (3.1) is averaging more tackles per league game this season than Jonny (2.5) of all Wolves players.
