Manchester City poised to make club-record signing

Manchester City have made a breakthrough in talks to sign Riyad Mahrez after Leicester accepted a bid in the region of £60m, reports The Daily Mail.

Pep Guardiola has rekindled City’s interest in Mahrez after failing to prise the Algeria international away from Leicester in January.

Leicester were holding out for nearly £90m at the start of the year but the Premier League champions have successfully managed to lower the asking price.

City set a new club transfer record to sign Aymeric Laporte in January and are now set to break it for the second time in six months with Mahrez's impending arrival.

Mahrez, who was given an extra week off by Leicester to secure a move away, is now expected to undergo his medical and complete a move to the Etihad before City report back for pre-season training on Monday.

Guardiola wants to bolster his offensive options ahead of the new season despite the fact City scored more than 100 Premier League goals last term.

The City boss is also desperate to get a deal for Napoli midfielder Jorginho over the line before the end of the weekend and City are close to striking a deal in the region of £50m.

Mahrez scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 league appearances last season, rediscovering the dazzling form he showed during Leicester’s shock title winning-campaign in 2015/16.
