Sevilla closing in on club-record deal

Sevilla are on course to shatter their club-transfer record to land Sampdoria striker Luis Muriel in a deal worth an initial €20m (£17.7m), reports SportItalia, via Football Italia.

Muriel, 26, has a €28m release clause in his existing contract but the Serie A side are willing to part ways with the striker for less than that.

Sevilla have tabled an offer that could be worth as much as €24m (£21.3m) and the two clubs now need to iron out the structure of the payments before a deal can be completed.

The Colombia international stands to become the club’s most expensive ever signing after breaking their club-transfer record to sign Franco Vazquez from Palermo last summer for €15m (£13.3m).

Sevilla have been linked with a move for former striker Carlos Bacca but it would seem unlikely they could afford to make two record signings in one window.

Muriel, who has two years remaining on his existing Sampdoria deal, has spent the last two seasons at the club after joining from Udinese in 2015. In that time, he has scored more league goals than any other teammate (17).
