Chelsea are monitoring Wigan Athletic left-back Antonee Robinson ahead of the summer, claims The Daily Mirror.
Frank Lampard wants to sign a new left-back at the end of the season after deeming Marcos Alonso and Emerson surplus to requirements.
The Chelsea head coach has even been using Cesar Azpilicueta as a make-shift left-back in recent weeks after failing to sign a recognised player for that position last month.
Robinson has emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Premier League outfit following his failed move to AC Milan in January.
The 22-year-old agreed terms with Milan and even flew out to Italy on deadline day to complete his medical only for the move to collapse.
Milan and Wigan failed to agree on a structure for the £10m deal and Robinson was forced to return to England disapppointed.
All is not lost for Robinson, however, as a solid second half of the season could see him secure a move back to the Premier League.
Wigan only paid £2m to sign Robinson from Everton last summer but the Championship strugglers stand to make a huge profit on the United States international.
No Wigan player has garnered a higher WhoScored rating in the Championship than Robinson this season (6.98), while the youngster has featured in the most minutes playing time for the club (2587).
Furthermore, Robinson has completed more dribbles (56) than any other defender in the Championship this season and ranks eighth overall.
