Stoke poised to move for £2m striker

Stoke manager Mark Hughes is ready to step up his interest in Mimoun Mahi and trigger the Groningen striker’s £2m release clause, The Sun.

The 23-year-old has been in sublime goalscoring form for the Dutch outfit since the start of last season and now has suitors from the Premier League and Championship.

Swansea, Bristol City and Nottingham Forest are some of the sides that have expressed an interested in Mahi, who will be free to speak to clubs if Groningen receive an offer of £2m.

Hughes is desperate to bolster his offensive options in January having watched his side only manage 10 goals in their opening nine Premier League matches this season.

The Potters are currently only above the bottom three on goal difference and Hughes will be lucky to still be in the job if Stoke’s form continues in this manner until January, but he wants to bring Mahi to the Bet365 Stadium nevertheless.

Despite Groningen’s status in the league, no player has scored more Eredivisie goals than Mahi (22) since the start of last season.
