Manchester City announce record-breaking deal for England international

Manchester City have announced they have signed Tottenham ace Kyle Walker in a deal that makes him the most expensive English player of all-time.

Pep Guardiola’s side have reportedly agreed a stunning £54m deal with Tottenham that will not only surpass the £50m they paid Everton for John Stones last summer, but also make the 26-year-old the most costly defender in the history of football.

Walker has been intent of joining City since the end of last season when he dropped down the pecking order under boss Mauricio Pochettino, but City were initially reluctant to match Tottenham’s stunning valuation.

However, City’s was somewhat forced to break the bank in the wake of Dani Alves’ shock decision to turn down a reunion with Guardiola in favour of a move to Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the week.

Walker underwent his medical with City on Friday before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal that will run until June 2022. He will wear the No.2 jersey that was vacated by Pablo Zabaleta when he left the club earlier this summer.

“I am thrilled to be signing for City and can’t wait to get started,” Walker told the club’s official website.

“Pep Guardiola is one of the most respected managers in the world and I feel he can help me take my game to a new level.”

No defender registered more assists in the Premier League last season than Walker (5), who is the third player signed by City this summer following the arrivals of Ederson from Benfica and Monaco’s Bernardo Silva.
