West Brom interested in axed Liverpool man

West Brom have entered the race to sign transfer listed Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, reports BBC Sport.

Liverpool are keen to sell Sakho after he dropped completely out of favour under Jurgen Klopp during their pre-season tour of America 12 months ago.

Sakho spent the second half of last season on loan at Crystal Palace and played a huge part in helping steer the club clear of relegation.

Palace were interested in signing the former France international on a permanent deal at the start of the summer but ended their interest after Liverpool refused to drop their £30m asking price.

Sakho’s name has barely been mentioned since, but Tony Pulis is now curious to see whether there is a chance to sign the 27-year-old.

Interestingly, this news comes in the wake of Manchester City’s failed £18m bid for West Brom captain Jonny Evans. Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to return with an improved offer but the Baggies are reportedly holding out for somewhere in the region of £35m.

It would seem that Pulis has earmarked Sakho as a potential replacement but it remains to be seen whether they’d be willing to shatter their club transfer record to land the defender or if Liverpool would even reduce their asking price.

Palace’s won 62.5% of their league matches with Sakho in the starting XI last season compared to just 23.3% when he was not picked.
