Valverde considering Barcelona future

Ernesto Valverde is considering his future at Barcelona after just one season at the club, claims AS.

Barcelona made the surprise decision to appoint Valverde as Luis Enrique’s successor at the end of last season.

Valverde has managed Barcelona’s season beyond anyone’s expectations and the Catalonian side are on course to win a league and cup double.

The 54-year-old’s future has been cast into doubt since Barcelona were dumped out of the Champions League quarter-finals earlier this month.

Barcelona squandered a 4-1 first leg lead against Roma to crash out on the away goals ruling, losing 3-0 in Italy.

Reports emerged in the build up to Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semi-final against Sevilla that Valverde would lose his job with a defeat.

Barcelona went on to record a comprehensive 5-0 win to book their place in the final but Valverde is still considering his future at the club.

Valverde has the full support of the Barcelona squad and players are unhappy with the boards treatment of their coach.

Barcelona are currently 11 points clear at the top of La Liga and can wrap up the league title with a win away to Deportivo La Coruna at the weekend.

Overall, Valverde has a win ratio of 70.4% during his first season in charge at Barcelona, only losing four times in all competitions.
