Fenerbahce to rival PSV for Chelsea midfielder

Fenerbahce have entered the race to sign Chelsea loan star Marco van Ginkel.

Van Ginkel has flourished for PSV Eindhoven since returning to the Dutch giants on loan for the remainder of the season in December.

The 24-year-old extended his contract until 2019 before completing the loan switch to PSV but now Phillip Cocu’s side face a battle to retain his services beyond the end of the current campaign.

Fenerbahce have been impressed with the Netherlands international’s performances this season and manager Dick Advocaat has already offered a glowing appraisal of his talents.

“He’s a good player. He can be the one who will move the ball from the midfield area to the last third,” The London Evening Standard quote him as saying.

“He’s a good passer and also a great competitor. He has a good mindset. If the terms are acceptable, signing him would be a no-brainer.”

While Van Ginkel would like to return to Stamford Bridge and break into Antonio Conte’s first team, his chances are slim with the Chelsea manager looking to strengthen his midfield options in the summer.

Only Andres Guardado (7.78) has secured a higher WhoScored rating in the Eredivisie this season for PSV than Van Ginkel (7), with the Dutchman weighing in with seven goals and two assists from central midfield.
