AC Milan have made Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek their top transfer target to replace Gonzalo Higuain this month, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.
Higuain wants to cancel his loan stint at Milan and secure a move to Chelsea where he will reunite with former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri.
Chelsea are in talks with Juventus to secure Higuain’s services and Milan are now on the market for his replacement.
Piatek only joined Genoa in the summer for a reported €4m fee but has been a revelation for the Serie A side this season.
The Poland international has been dubbed the next Robert Lewandowski and has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Genoa’s preference would be to keep Piatek for the remainder of the season but are willing to sell this month if they receive the right deal.
Chelsea outcast Alvaro Morata was expected to join Milan in a deal that would see Higuain go the other way but the Spaniard is in talks with a move to Atletico Madrid.
Milan will reportedly have to spend €40m to sign Piatek this month, which is not too dissimilar to the loan agreement with Juventus for Higuain.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo (14) has scored more goals than Piatek (13) in Serie A this season.
