Sunderland manager David Moyes is hoping to sign Peter Crouch in January as he looks to reunite the frontman and Jermain Defoe, reports the Sun on Sunday.
After a disastrous start to the campaign, Moyes has overseen back to back Premier League wins to lift the Black Cats off the foot of the table.
And he is looking to build on that and improve his attack with the signing of Crouch in January, with the former England international his priority in the New Year.
The 35-year-old and Defoe, who netted his 150th Premier League goal of his career at the weekend, worked well together during their time at Portsmouth and Tottenham.
Crouch, who has made just one league start this season, will have six months left to run on his current deal at the Bet365 Stadium when the transfer window opens and Stoke are looking to cash in on the striker rather than lose him on a free in the summer.
Victor Anichebe, who bagged a brace in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Hull, is Defoe’s only support in attack with Fabio Borini currently sidelined and Moyes is eager to improve the squad's firepower.
Leonardo Ulloa was linked with a move to the Stadium of Light over the summer, but Moyes has since turned his attention to Crouch.
