Fulham eyeing sensational swoop for World Cup star

According to reports from The Mirror, Fulham are not done bolstering their midfield options yet and are considering an ambitious bid for Mexico international Hector Herrera.

The midfielder played a key role in Porto’s Liga NOS title last season and showed his quality at the World Cup in Russia too, not least as the Central Americans defeated the then reigning champions Germany in their first game.

The 28-year-old has been a key player for both club and country for years and would represent a real coup should the Cottagers seal a switch this summer.

The newly promoted side have already pulled off the shock signings of Jean Michael Seri and Andre Schurrle and Herrera would no doubt partner the former in the middle ground at Craven Cottage should he arrive.

A strong player to have at the base of the midfield, any acquisition of the Porto man would allow captain Tom Cairney to push forward as Fulham aim to re-establish themselves as a top-flight club.

The addition of a player like Herrera - who earned a superb WhoScored.com rating of 7.50 in the Portuguese league last season - would be another significant statement of intent in that regard from the West London club.
