Hodgson wants to reunite with Arsenal midfielder at Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson wants to bring Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to Crystal Palace in January, reports The Daily Mail.

The former England manager was appointed Palace manager on Tuesday evening and has already set about thrashing out his transfer plans for the January transfer window.

Wilshere has dropped down the pecking order at Arsenal in the last 12 months and even spent last season on loan at Bournemouth before breaking his leg in April.

The 25-year-old is poised to make his first Arsenal appearance in more than a year when the Gunners host German side Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday, but his long-term place at the club remains in doubt.

Wilshere's existing deal is due to expire at the end of the season and appears unlikely to get a renewal, which could convince Arsene Wenger's side to cash in on the midfielder in January rather than lose him for nothing next summer.

Hodgson worked with Wilshere during his time as England manager and tried to built his team around the injury-prone midfielder when he was fit and available for selection.

Palace have made a dismal start to the league and are currently rock bottom after losing their first four matches without scoring a single goal.

Since the start of last season, only Kevin De Bruyne (9) and Paul Pogba (7) have been denied by the woodwork more times than Wilshere (5) in the Premier League.
