Sane out for up to seven weeks, says Manchester City boss
Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has revealed Leroy Sane will be sidelined for up to seven weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage on Sunday.
Sane was on the receiving end of a horror tackle from Cardiff defender Joe Bennett during City’s 2-0 FA Cup fourth round win and was forced off at half-time.
The Premier League leaders confirmed on Monday evening that Sane had suffered ankle ligament damage and now Guardiola has revealed a timeframe for his recovery.
“Leroy is injured. It will be six or seven weeks," Guardiola said in his press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League match against West Brom.
It means that Sane will miss both legs of City’s Champions League knockout tie against Swiss side FC Basel, as well as potentially up to eight league and cup matches.
Included in that sequence are two games against Arsenal and a huge Premier League clash with Chelsea, but the Germany international should have recovered well in time for the Manchester derby on April 4.
Only Neymar (11) has registered more assists than Sane (10) in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
