David Beckham wants Barcelona superstar Messi to kickstart MLS franchise

David Beckham wants to convince Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona and join his new MLS franchise Inter Miami in 2020, reports The Daily Mail.

Inter Miami inaugural MLS season is planned for 2020 and Beckham’s side have already been heavily linked with moves for some of the biggest players in the world.

However, it has now emerged the former England captain wants to make serious play to bring Messi to America, which would be a stunning statement of intent from the MLS franchise.

Messi is regarded as one of the best players ever but his current Barcelona deal expires in 2021, with Beckham eyeing an early release from his boyhood club.

The Argentina international has spent his entire career at Barcelona and has never truly come close to leaving since making his first-team debut in 2004.

Despite recently turning 31, Messi has shown no real sign of slowing and is still producing mouthwatering performances on a weekly basis for the Spanish giants.

Messi has played a direct hand in six goals in four league appearances for Barcelona this season, adding to the 34 goals and 12 assists he managed last term.

The Argentine forward is unlikely to play for another European club but it remains to be seen whether he is willing to finish his career anywhere else other than Barcelona.

Messi is the highest WhoScored rated player in Europe’s top five leagues this season (8.68).
