Bayern Munich have announced Thomas Muller has signed a new six-year deal with the club, putting an end to Manchester United’s drawn out pursuit of the German striker.
Muller has been heavily linked with a move to United over the past 12 months and was reportedly subject to a huge offer from Louis van Gaal’s side over the summer.
The Germany international has been in sensational form since leading Germany to World Cup glory in 2014 and is now regarded as one of the most clinical finishers in European football.
However, United will have to turn their attentions elsewhere for the marquee signing that Van Gaal craves with Muller now contracted to Bayern until 2021.
Muller was not the only person to receive new long-term deals, with Bayern also delighted to announce that Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez had also committed until 2021, while Xabi Alonso has put an end to speculation regarding his future by extending his stay with Bayern until 2017.
However, it is the news that Muller has committed his future that will please Bayern fans most. The German forward is currently enjoying the best form of his career and required only 14 appearances to match his personal best goalscoring tally in a league campaign (13) last month.
