Sunderland forward out for up to three months

Sunderland have been served a blow in their bid to beat the drop with Victor Anichebe ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a knee injury, reports Sky Sports.

Anichebe, 28, picked up the injury during Sunderland’s 2-0 defeat to West Brom at the weekend and is now set to miss more than two months of the campaign.

The former Everton striker only penned a one-year deal with Sunderland in September and made an immediate impact for David Moyes’ side but has struggled with injuries for the majority of the season.

Sunderland have been hit with a number of injuries throughout the campaign and currently have at least 10 players unavailable for first-team selection.

With relatively no money to invest in the squad this month, Moyes will need a miracle to steer Sunderland clear of the bottom three and that has been made even harder by the loss of Anichebe.

In fact, all four of Sunderland’s league wins this season have come with Anichebe in the starting XI, while they have lost 11 of the 14 league matches the Nigerian has not featured in from the off.
