Manchester United boss Mourinho hits out at Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial’s future at Manchester United has plunged into further doubt after Jose Mourinho questioned his commitment to the club.

The France international wants to leave United this summer after failing to win over Mourinho over the last two years and left their pre-season tour early to be at the birth of his son.

Martial has now missed United’s last two pre-season friendlies and Mourinho used their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday evening to hit out at the 22-year-old.

“He has the baby and after the baby is born - beautiful baby, full of health, thank God. He should be here and he’s not here,” Mourinho told MUTV, via The Daily Mirror.  “Now we have Real Madrid and after that we have Bayern Munich and that’s our start.

“I just hope the boys on deserved holidays, they take care of themselves a little bit and somebody wants to do what [Marcus] Rashford and [Phil] Jones do, which is to be back a little earlier to try and help the team because, for the beginning of the season, we’re going to be in trouble.”

Martial has been heavily linked with moves to Chelsea and Tottenham and the United No.11 is reportedly ready to defy the club and push for a move to one of their Premier League rivals.

United would prefer to sell Martial abroad but are struggling to entice the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain with their £80m valuation.

Martial has only started 36 matches out of a possible 76 under Mourinho, scoring 13 times in that spell. Nevertheless, since making his debut for United in the 2015/16 campaign, Martial has netted more Premier League goals than any other team-mate (24).
