Valencia manager in last chance saloon

Gary Neville could be sacked as Valencia head coach if they crash out of the Europa League against Spanish counterparts Athletic Club on Thursday evening, according to Madrid-based newspaper El Pais, via 101 Great Goals.

Valencia have struggled for any real sort of form since Neville replaced Nuno in December on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Neville has overseen Los Che’s drop from ninth to 12th in La Liga and will host Athletic Club in the return leg of their last 16 Europa League tie attempting to overturn a one-goal deficit from the first-leg.

According to El Pais, the people of Valencia have completely lost faith in their young manager and defeat on Thursday could spell the end of his short stint as Valencia head coach.

Valencia’s form under Neville doesn’t inspire much confidence either. In fact, Neville has only won four of his 12 matches at the Mestalla since taking over.
