Roma are looking to take advantage of Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban to sign Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth after bidding €6.5m (£5.7m), reports Radio La Red in Argentina, via Football Italia.
Foyth, 19, has only made six appearances in his breakthrough campaign in the Argentine Primera Division this season and there is a feeling he should look to establish himself as a first team regular for Estudiantes first before thinking of moving to Europe.
However, the Argentina U-20 international has caught the eye of new Roma sporting director Monchi and they have already firmed up their interest with an official proposal.
Spanish giants Atletico are also interested in Foyth but can’t register new players until January when the FIFA-imposed transfer ban is lifted so they are hopeful of signing the teenager and loaning him back to Estudiantes.
Only Sebastian Dubarbier (7.37) has garnered a higher WhoScored rating in the league of all current Estudiantes players this season than Foyth (7.36), while the centre-back is averaging the most tackles and interceptions per game (both 3.2) at the club.
