Manchester United’s attempts to sign Sergio Ramos are dead and buried after the defender put pen to paper on a new five-year deal at Real Madrid, the La Liga giants has announced.
Ramos, 29, has been heavily linked with a move to United and had reportedly told Madrid chiefs his desire to leave the club earlier this summer, but both parties have now found a successful compromise with the Madrid captain committing his future until 2020.
The Spain international is expected to appear alongside Madrid chairman Florentino Perez later on Monday to officially unveil the news. No defender has scored more league goals than Ramos (22) in Europe's top five leagues over the past seven seasons.
