Former Manchester United striker in talks for MLS switch
Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez is in talks with Major League Soccer about a potential switch stateside, reports ESPN.
Hernandez has been heavily linked with a move to the United States in the past and the MLS are looking to land the Mexico international in 2018 when his current deal with Leverkusen expires, thus avoiding having to pay a fee for his services.
Chicago Fire and Orlando City are just two MLS franchises that have previously expressed an interest in the former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker but unfinished business in Europe thwarted their attempts.
Hernandez would be set to become the highest earner in MLS should he make the switch, with ESPN reporting he could earn north of $9m (£7.2m) a year, although Leverkusen would be reluctant to not only lose their star striker but also for nothing.
The 28-year-old has scored five goals in his last four appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen having previously gone more than 1000 minutes without finding the back of the net. Nevertheless, he has been an immense player for the club since joining from United at the start of last season.
In fact, Hernandez has scored at least 16 more league goals than any other Leverkusen player since joining the club (27).
