Manchester United plan fresh contract talks with star forward

Manchester United plan to open fresh contract talks with Anthony Martial’s representatives, claims The Times.

Martial’s future at United has been thrown into doubt since Alexis Sanchez’s arrival in January and Juventus are understood to be keen on his services.

United recognise Martial is one of the most gifted attacking players at the club and have no interest in selling the France international.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly frustrated that United have not already secured Martial’s long-term future having first opened contract talks with his agent, Philippe Lamboley, back in December.

Martial will only have 12 months left to run on his current deal at the end of the season, although United are believed to have an option to a further 12 months.

The former Monaco forward has endured a turbulent time at United since Mourinho’s appointment nearly two years ago but has fared better under the Portuguese this season.

Nevertheless, the United No.11 has only started 16 Premier League matches this season and his most influential displays have tended to come from the bench.

In fact, Martial has scored or assisted more goals as a substitute than any other player in the Premier League this season (6).
