Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg have announced Roberto Mancini as their new head coach on a a three-year deal with an option to a further two seasons.
Zenit sacked Mircea Lucescu last week after the 71-year-old failed to guide the Russian side into the Champions League in either of his two years in charge.
The Russian Premier League outfit have now turned to former Manchester City and Inter manager Mancini in a bid to restore the club to its former glories.
Mancini has been out of work since being sacked as Inter in August and will be tasked with improving on two consecutive third placed finishes in the Russian Premier League.
No team scored more goals in the Russian Premier League this season than Zenit (50), while only FC Rostov (18) and CSKA Moscow (15) conceded fewer goals than the Sky Blues (19), which suggests they aren’t far off sustaining a title challenge.
