Aston Villa eye move for Liverpool striker

Aston Villa have earmarked Liverpool striker Divock Origi as a potential transfer target this summer, claims The Sun.

Dean Smith wants to bolster his offensive options for the new season after Villa avoided relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season.

Villa spent more than £30m on new strikers over the course of the 2019/20 campaign only for Wesley and Mbwana Samatta to return six league goals.

Wesley will miss the start of next season through injury and Samatta only managed three shots on target in 14 league appearances after joining in January.

Having learned from the mistakes of last summer, Villa are looking to sign more players with Premier League experience.

Origi has been earmarked as a potential transfer target as a result, with his Liverpool future up in the air following another season on the sidelines.

The Belgium international was limited to just seven Premier League starts this season and Liverpool are reportedly still on the market for a new striker despite turning down Timo Werner.

Origi has spent the last six years at Liverpool but has reached double figures for league starts just once in that time.

The 25-year-old has weighed in with important goals for Liverpool in the last two years despite his limited role and Villa are now weighing up move to hand him regular playing time in a £15m deal.

Only Everton striker Moise Kean (23) was used more times as a substitute than Origi (21) in the Premier League this season.
