Tottenham striker out until Christmas

Vincent Janssen’s season has gone from bad to worse with The Sun reporting the Tottenham striker is now ruled out until Christmas through injury.

Tottenham transfer listed Janssen at the start of the summer and were hoping to offload the Dutch striker before all transfer windows around the continent close this month.

Janssen showed outstanding goalscoring form to earn a £17m move to Tottenham from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2016 but has been a huge disappointment for the north London outfit.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan with Turkish giants Fenerbahce but failed to make any impact there, scoring four goals in 16 league appearances.

Janssen was left off Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the US and doesn’t even have a squad number for this season but the club’s hopes of selling the forward have been dashed.

The Netherlands international is now expected to be sidelined for most of the first half of the season, meaning he will stay at Tottenham until January at the very earliest.

There are still two years left to run on his current Tottenham deal and Pochettino’s side are struggling to find any club willing to pay a substantial fee, as well as match his current wages.

Janssen has made 28 appearances in the Premier League since joining Tottenham two years ago but has only netted twice in that period and one was a penalty.
