Neymar to sign five-year extension

Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has confirmed Neymar will sign a new five-year extension with the club in the coming days.

Neymar, 24, has been heavily linked with a move away from Barcelona this summer and reports had emerged earlier in the month suggesting he had been in contact with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazil international has two years remaining on his existing deal but the club are keen to align his salary to the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to make him one of the highest earners at the club, with a deal close to completion.

“He will be in Barcelona, he will not leave,” Bartomeu is quoted as saying by Marca.

“In the coming days we will close a deal for his renewal for another five years.”

Only Lionel Messi (8.46) secured a higher WhoScored.com rating across Europe’s top five leagues last season than Neymar (8.43) after registering more key passes from open play than any other player in La Liga (79).
