Tottenham ace Rose eyes move to surprise European club

Danny Rose is interested in joining Marseille this month in a bid to retain his spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, claims The Star.

The 28-year-old has dropped below Ben Davies in the pecking order at Tottenham in the last 12 months and faces a season on the bench if he stays at the club.

Clubs from France, Germany and Spain can still buy players until Friday and Rose has already been heavily linked with a move to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham are willing to sell Rose despite not being able to replace the left-back until January and now Marseille have emerged as surprise suitors.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side slapped a £50m valuation on Rose’s head 12 months ago but his stock has diminished since then and now they are willing to cash in for less than half their original price tag.

Southgate is due to name his first England squad since the 2018 World Cup next week for September's matches against Spain and Switzerland.

Rose is yet to feature in the Premier League this season and is expected to be named as a substitute when Tottenham tackle Manchester United on Monday.

Ashley Young was ahead of Rose in the pecking order for places at the 2018 World Cup and the likes of Luke Shaw and Ryan Bertrand have featured regularly for the clubs so far this season.

Rose has only started nine Premier League games since the start of last season and it’s clear he will need to leave Spurs in order to find regular playing time.
