Liverpool defensive target agrees Real Madrid switch

David Alaba has agreed to join Real Madrid at the end of the season when his current Bayern Munich deal expires, claims The Guardian.

Alaba has entered the final six months of his current Bayern contract and has refused to renew with the Bundesliga giants.

The Austria international has spent over a decade with Bayern but has now agreed a four-year deal with Madrid for the summer.

Alaba was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this month but Jurgen Klopp will have to look elsewhere if he wants to strengthen at the back.

The 28-year-old's dream has always been to play for Madrid and he will now get his wish after striking a pre-contract agreement worth in excess of £200,000-a-week.

Alaba's impending arrival at Madrid is interesting for a few reasons and again raises doubts over Sergio Ramos' future.

Ramos is also out of contract at the end of the season and no breakthrough has been made in talks with Madrid about a renewal.

Alaba could be seen as a direct replacement for the veteran centre-back or someone that can rotate between centre-back and left-back with Marcelo's future also in doubt.

Only four players average more passes per game than Alaba (74.9) in the Bundesliga this season, slightly fewer than Ramos (75.5) in La Liga.
