Inter captain pledges career to club

Mauro Icardi has revealed he wants to spend the rest of his career at Inter and help get them back to the summit of European football.

The Argentina international was made club captain at the start of the season but has previously endured a turbulent stint at Inter, which has included constant talks of big money moves to the Premier League.

Icardi put all of his controversies behind him to sign a new long-term deal with the club in October and the 24-year-old is looking to stay beyond the 2021 expiration.

“I’ve been asked this question many times,” Inter said when answering questions on Inter Channel’s Facebook page, via Football Italia. “I want to stay here forever. I’m the captain of this great club, I’m happy in Milan and so are my family. I hope to have a long career with Inter.

“The Champions League? I want to play in it with Inter, we hope to be ready. I expect a lot [from this team] we have the skills and qualities to do great things. The club is doing great things to help the team.

“The first thing we felt from them [new owners] was the desire the bring Inter back to where we were in the past and win a lot of thing. They’ll try to improve us every year, bringing in players who can help the team.”

Icardi has been in phenomenal goalscoring form for Inter this season and any chances they have of finishing in the Champions League positions will depend on him.

In fact, Icardi has scored or assisted 28 goals in Serie A this season, which represents just more than half of the goals Inter have managed as a team (50.9%).
