Manchester United turn attentions to Antoine Griezmann’s international teammate

Manchester United are now interested in signing Antoine Griezmann’s international teammate Alexandre Lacazette after missing out on the Atletico Madrid striker this summer, reports The Daily Mirror.

Jose Mourinho’s interest in Griezmann died on Wednesday after the France international decided he could not leave Atletico in the wake of the Court of Arbitration for Sport [CaS] decision to reject the club’s appeal to overturn a FIFA-imposed transfer ban.

Griezmann was United’s No.1 transfer target this summer and the club were reportedly willing to match his €100m (£87m) release clause but Mourinho’s side have already turned their attentions to £50m-rated Lyon striker Lacazette.

The 26-year-old is free to leave Lyon this summer and was expected to join Atletico as Griezmann’s replacement but that deal is no longer on the cards following news Diego Simeone’s side will not be able to register new players until January 2018.

The fact that United have done business with Lyon in the past with the sale of Memphis Depay in January and Rafael in 2015 may also work in the club’s favour to broker a deal to bring the Lyon No.10 to Old Trafford.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the Lyon ace in the past but Lacazette is reportedly reluctant to entertain any offers from Arsene Wenger’s side after they made a hash of securing his services last summer.

Lacazette has just enjoyed his best ever season in front of goal after scoring 37 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions for the French giants, including 28 in 30 matches in Ligue 1.
