Derby County have announced they have reappointed Steve McClaren as their first-team coach just 19 months after sacking him.
The Rams have been on the look out for a new manager after dismissing Nigel Pearson last week and have now turned to McClaren, who has been out of work since being sacked by Newcastle in March this year.
McClaren, 55, was in charge of Derby for two years before taking talk of a job in the Premier League derailed their own promotion push before he was sacked.
“I am excited to be back at Derby Country as the club’s manager,” McClaren told the club’s official website. “I have a great affiliation with the club, having been here on three previous occasions, and I am really delighted at the prospect of finishing what we started back in September 2013.
“I regret how my time at Derby ended back in 2015 and I am very motivated to put things right for the club and out supporters. My ultimate aspiration remains exactly what is was before, to take Derby County back to the Premier League."
