Alex Sandro doesn’t want to join Chelsea, says Juventus chief
Juventus direct Beppe Marotta has delivered Chelsea a decisive blow in their pursuit of Alex Sandro after revealing the defender has requested to stay at the club this season.
Antonio Conte has been chasing Sandro’s signature all summer and Chelsea have reportedly even had bids that would have made the Brazilian the world’s most expensive defender of all-time rejected.
Chelsea have recently rekindled their interest in the 26-year-old with the hope Sandro would request to join the Premier League champions, but Marotta has revealed the situation is actually the complete opposite.
“He said he wants to stay here, so we sent the offers right back where they came from,” Marotta told reporters, via Football Italia.
Sandro joined Juventus from Porto in 2015 and has established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe during that time, finishing last season as Juventus’ highest rated WhoScored player in Serie A (7.63).
The Brazilian has three years remaining on his existing Juventus contract but is now expected to sign a bumper new deal after turning down the chance to enhance his earning power in London.
