Liverpool ready to stick with Karius next season

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp still wants to sign another goalkeeper for next season but is prepared to stick with Loris Karius if there is no clear upgrade on the market, claims The Daily Mirror.

The Merseyside outfit have been heavily linked with a move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson in the last 12 months but have conceded defeat in their pursuit of the Brazil international after being priced out of a move by their Serie A counterparts.

There is a real dearth of high quality goalkeepers within budget for Liverpool at the moment and Klopp will only dip into the market if a clear upgrade on their current options becomes available.

Karius was widely expected to leave Liverpool following his nightmare performance in last season’s Champions League final, but his poor display has largely been accredited to concussion.

In an ideal world Klopp would still like to sign a better goalkeeper, as the 25-year-old has endured a difficult two years at Anfield, but he could be handed another chance to impress next term.

Simon Mignolet, meanwhile, is widely expected to leave Liverpool regardless. The former Sunderland shot-stopper has dropped down the pecking order in the last 12 months and will need to leave for regular playing time.

Karius kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Champions League last season (6).
