Aston Villa have announced Roberto Di Matteo as their new manager on a reported two-year deal.
Di Matteo, who previously led Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2012, has been out of work since resigning as Schalke coach in May 2015.
Villa have been looking for a new permanent manager since sacking Remi Garde in March and have put their faith in Di Matteo, who led West Brom to the Premier League in 2010.
“It’s a wonderful honour for me to become manager of this great football club and I’m looking forward to the challenge of taking Aston Villa back to its rightful place,” Di Matteo told Villa’s official club website.
Villa were relegated with the worst defensive record in the Premier League last season having conceded at least nine more goals than any other team (76).
