Real Madrid supremo admits intention to sign goalkeeper
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed that the La Liga and European champions are following AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italy international has informed the Serie A side of his desire to leave the club either this summer or next after opting against penning a new deal with his current contract expiring next year.
AC Milan are reluctant to lose to highly rated shotstopper, but will expect an avalanche of offers for the teenager in the coming weeks.
Real Madrid, though, are said to be leading the race to sign Donnarumma as Los Blancos look to improve between the sticks and make a big money summer signing.
And Perez confirmed to Radio Onda Cero via Football Italia that his side are keeping tabs on the 18-year-old Italian.
“Everyone in the world says he’s a great player, who will replace [Gigi] Buffon in the national team,” Perez said.
“That he’s one with great quality. The whole world is telling me. We’re definitely following him, but I can’t tell you everything we’ll do.”
Donnarumma earned a better WhoScored rating (7.05) than any other goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues last season and made more saves (146) than any other Serie A goalkeeper.
