Lyon star not impressed with Memphis

Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette says January arrival Memphis Depay is yet to show the club what he can bring to the team.

Memphis, 23, joined Lyon from Manchester United in January in a deal worth £14m after dropping down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho.

The Netherlands international was hugely criticised for his performance in Lyon’s 2-0 defeat to fierce rivals Saint-Etienne in what was his third appearance for the club but has at least scored his first goal since then, although Lacazette admits the club still want more.

“I think that Memphis is a good player, but we’ll have to wait and see what he can bring to the team before the end of the season,” he told Goal.

“He has the strength, is a technical player and has a good deal of experience because he plays for the Netherlands team and he played at Manchester United. He’ll bring us all that.”

Despite moving to a new team, Memphis hasn’t been afraid to showcase what has gone him to this point in his career. In fact, only three teammates have fired off more shots per game than the United flop (1.8).
