Manchester City have earmarked Lyon starlet Mouctar Diakhaby as a potential transfer target as Pep Guardiola seeks to bolster his defensive options, reports The Sun.
The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for Lyon last season and has now established himself as an up-and-coming star for his boyhood club.
City sporting director Txiki Begiristain and assistant coach Mikel Arteta were reportedly in attendance at Goodison Park to watch Diakhaby in action in Lyon’s 2-1 win over Everton last week.
It was his first appearance in Europe this season and the France U21 international turned in an assured performance as Lyon earned their first win in Group E.
Guardiola is now weighing up a move for the youngster as he looks to add a fourth centre-back to his squad.
The City head coach does not deem Eliaquim Mangala as part of his long-term plans at the Etihad, while Vincent Kompany’s days appeared to be numbered once again after picking up an injury that has kept him out of City’s last 10 matches.
Guardiola failed to sign West Brom defender Jonny Evans over the summer, with Diakhaby now in his sights.
