David Alaba’s father and agent has sensationally claimed Real Madrid want to sign the Bayern Munich left-back this summer.
The Austria international has been tipped to join Madrid in the past and now those links have resurfaced ahead of the summer.
Madrid will have one eye on finding Marcelo’s long-term replacement in the near future as the Brazil international turned 30 earlier this month.
Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid in the last few months and now, according to George Alaba, claims his son is also on the club’s radar.
“Everyone knows that Real Madrid are really interested in David, but we can’t say anything right now,” he told AS.
“We’ll see what happens in the summer. Now isn’t the moment to discuss who is interested in him. Everyone already knows of Madrid’s interest, it’s no secret. But right now there’s nothing to say. He has to wait and see at the end of the season.”
The 25-year-old’s current Bayern deal isn’t due to expire until 2021 and the Bundesliga champions will demand an astronomical fee for anyone wanting to prise him away this summer.
Alaba struggled to rediscover his best form for Bayern this summer, even losing his place at left-back to veteran defender Rafinha at times.
In fact, Alaba only managed 17 league starts this term, which is his lowest return since the 2011/12 campaign (14 starts).
It'd be beyond retarded for anyone involved. Marcelo is better, plays every match and it's unforseeable when will he start to decline. The transfer would ruin the prime years of Alaba and therefore would be superfluous, not to mention financially irresponsible.
